The conflict in sudan
The Lost Boys of Sudan are a group of boys which were forced to travel to safety when the war between North and South Sudan erupted. The North and South were in war because of religion and ethnic groups. While the young boys families were killed or brought into slavery, the small boys were out in the farms and that was their chance to escape. More and more villages were attacked and more and more boys fled to find a refugee camp. The boys were only a few years older than one another, the ages between 7-17 or younger. Their first attempt to find the Ethiopia camp took them several weeks. Many boys were killed along the way, eaten by lions, catching diseases or leaving on their own. Those left went to Ethiopia and found a camp which they stayed and sheltered. But, in 1991, communists caused the downfall of the government and the lost boys had to run. They were chased down to the Gilo River and where almost half of the boys died, drowning or eaten by crocodiles. The remaining boys headed to Kenya in search of a new refugee camp. Those who survived, reached Kenya in 1992, a camp called Kakuma.
Now, as we live our daily lives, the Lost Boys still struggle to get used to the modern and adult ways of the people all around the world. Only 1,200 boys have found out who their parents were. 17,000 boys still remain at refugee camps.
